Databases
There is an incredible amount of biochemistry information available
on the internet. The best sites are comprehensive, constantly updated
and provide users with an easy to use interface.
Taxonomy and Phylogeny-The
Tree of Life Web Project
While many evolutionary relationships are not
definitively established, this site seeks to provide a uniform and linked
framework in which to publish electronically information about the evolutionary
history and characteristics of all groups of organisms to aid education
about and appreciation of biological diversity.
Biochemical Pathways-Roche
Charts
This is an electronic version of the charts hanging on the walls on
first floor in Lipman Hall. These charts graphically combine the
results of metabolic research in many fields.
Genomes-Ensembl
Ensembl is a software system which produces and maintains automatic
annotation on eukaryotic genomes
DNA sequences-GenBank
Genbank is one of several annotated collections of publicly available
DNA sequences. The database contains approximately 20 million sequence
records. The data in these records contain information such as source
organism, journal article in which the sequence was published, and translations
to amino acid sequence.
Protein Structures-PDB
The Protein Data Bank is a centralized database containing three
dimensional structure information of biological macromolecules. It
is operated by Rutgers and two other member organizations of the
Research Collaboratory for Structural Bioinformatics (RCSB). The
files are deposited by researchers worldwide. Most of the data files
contain x,y,z coordinates of proteins or nucleic acids determined by x-ray
crystallography or nmr spectroscopy. Theoretical models are also
accepted.
Multi-journal search engine-Pubmed
Pubmed searchable abstracts from thousands of medical related journals
and provides links to full text articles when available.
Pubmed is provided by the National Center for Biotechnology Information
(NCBI).
Electronic
Journals
The full texts of many journals are available through the library's
web site.
SciFinder
Scholar-
This is a search engine for Chemical Abstracts with a graphical interface
and is made available through the Rutgers library system.
Biochemistry
Problem Sets
Any search engine will return links to a myriad of sites providing
problems and solutions to questions related to biochemistry. Here
is a small sample of what you would find.
